'what's next' question from a total newbie

A place for users and developers of the Xataface to discuss and receive support.

Postby andaweb » Sat Aug 12, 2006 8:28 am

I just downloaded Dataface into a folder at the root of a test site (as qicu.com/df). I tried qicu.com/df/dataface_info.php and everything looks just fine to me. When I try to get access to qicu.com/df, I got stuck with a one-liner: "Error loading config file. No tables specified".

I have not yet made any change to the whole df folder (except modifying the permission of template_c as instructed).

I'd really appreciate if someone can shed a light of what should my next step(s) be?

(I saw the video and got an impression that dataface should be applied in a UNiX platform, is it true?)

Thanks,
andaweb

It's not that I can give lots of advice, but I've been working with Dataface for a week, and THE WAY is to follow Steve's, Ohps... Dataface's tutorial. You need to create you own application, and you can follow the Widgtery example, or one specific for you... You'll do DB definition, and start working with it in minutes...

Once you've done the whole tour you'll have something working and be able to perceive the tip of the iceberg.

As far as Unix, I can«t tell you. It works there, but if you look in the Forum and other places, you'll see things about other environments.

The best thing is to define exactly your system, and see if Steve can validate for you.

I don't know how he does it, but he always gives very prompt answers.

Good luck.

I generally use unix for all of my systems, but it works on windows as well. The only place where you may run into trouble on some systems is using the makesite script. If the makesite script won't run for you, then the manual install will work fine. I generally use the manual install method for my own apps because it is so quick to do. You just have to create 3 files with a combined total of about 12 boilerplate lines of code.

Best regards

Steve

Mr. Alan,

Have you been able get Dataface up and running? If you need help please ask. As suggested already, the tutorial will show you how to accomplish many things you need.

(Will mark this resolved soon).
