top menu configuration

Hi.
I am still entering on XF's world and would like to implement a top menu to organize the tables (as tabs along the top of the page). The idea is to have the groups in the tabs (like Group1, Group2, etc.) and when you press on one of them you see the associated tables in the "normal" place (down, on the left).
I've read posts about "organizing many tables", and got it to work on the Applications Delegate, but it was using the "left menu", how can i do it using the tabs?
Thanks in advance.
