I need to create a sort of interesting application. I have data being populated into a database from a remote source. I want to have the ability to manipulate the data via the web. (Add users to groups, modify a few select database fields, etc..) I've been playing around with DaDaBik, and while it works on a basic level, I want something that I can do some more with..
The system will be a sort of user/group managment system.
The short answer is probably yes

I have also looked at DaDaBik, and Xataface is in a different league.

Well... I think that Xataface is well suited to your application. It was born out of the need to be able to set up administration back-ends for database applications quickly, though it can now be used to develop the entire solution (front-end and back-end).
My best suggestion is to try setting up a basic application on your database and see how it works for you. If you have questions along the way just post them to the forum and I'll do my best to help you out.
Best regards
